‘Jai Bhim’, starring Suriya in the lead, has not received an Oscars nomination. The film was speculated to be in contention but the nominations haven’t featured its name.
Actually, hopes were raised by a particular development ahead of the announcement. Jacqueline Coley, Awards Editor at Rotten Tomatoes, said something on Twitter that triggered the speculation that ‘Jai Bhim’ was in the Oscar nomination race. “#JaiBhim for Best Picture. Trust me on this one,” she wrote.
Many film observers and fans of Suriya were today glued to the screens to know whether ‘Jai Bhim’ would make it. They were disappointed to know that it didn’t.
The film started streaming on Amazon Prime on November 2 last year. “In depicting the reality of case-based atrocities and how the powerful ally with the police and judicial system, the film is in Vetrimaaran’s ‘Visaaranai’ territory. ‘Jai Bhim’ makes for a healthy, engaging watch. It’s informative, enlightening and hard-hitting,” our review noted.
