The New Zealand cricket team is currently touring India for a 6-match (3 ODI & 3 T20) series. The Indian cricket team is facing New Zealand today in the first ODI match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. India won the toss and opted to bat first.
ICT scored 349 runs and lost 8 wickets at the end of the first innings. The hot news is that the Indian opening batter, Shubman Gill, scored his first double ton and broke several records today. He became the fifth Indian player to score 200 in ODI. Also, Gill is the youngest in ODI history to complete a double hundred.
Now, Shubman Gill has the highest average of 70 in ODI history. He has the highest individual score in ODI at the Hyderabad venue overtaking the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Today, Gill became the fastest Indian to complete 1000 runs in ODIs. He achieved this in 19 innings while Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan took 24 innings to score 1000 runs.
The whole Indian dressing room honoured the 23-year-old batter with a standing ovation and the run machine, Virat Kohli, gave him a warm hug. It is worth mentioning that Gill clinched 208 (149) runs today while the other Indian batters jointly scored 128 (151). Rohit Sharma's 34 (38) is the second-best individual score today beyond Gill's 208 (129).
Shubman Gill completed the terrific double hundred in 145 balls with hat-trick sixes when he was on 182 (142). His master-class innings included 19 fours & 9 sixes. Gill was 169*(137) and then he hit 6 sixes in 11 balls. The Indian Cricket Team has the upper hand in this game as New Zealand has just scored 130 runs in 28 overs and lost 5 wickets while chasing 350.
