The Indian diaspora in the US in cities such as Washington DC, New York and San Francisco gathered in large numbers in front of the Indian Embassy waving the tricolour flags to celebrate the 73rd Independence Day. A section of the Pakistani community belonging to the Tehreek-e-Insaf and Khalistanis tried to disrupt the proceedings but had to back off as the Indians outnumbered them by a huge margin.
The Pakistanis protested against the Modi governments decision to revoke Article 370 in Kashmir but did not get much support from their own people in the US as well. Meanwhile Harsh V Shringla hoisted the Indian flag in front of the embassy and read out the Independence Day message from Indian President Ram Nath Kovind which was received with a thunderous applause from the more than 500 American-Indians who had gathered.
