Renowned music composer Ilaiyaraaja has announced the launch of a girls’ orchestra group in memory of his daughter, singer, and composer Bhavatharini, who passed away on January 25, 2024, at the age of 47.
On February 12, a memorial event was held to mark her first death anniversary. Ilaiyaraaja, along with family members including Gangai Amaran, Karthik Raja, and Venkat Prabhu, attended the event. The occasion featured a concert of Bhavatharini’s songs.
Speaking at the event, Ilaiyaraaja revealed that Bhavatharini’s last wish was to establish a girls’ orchestra group. This orchestra will be open to girls under 15 years old, and participants from any part of the world can join. He announced that official details about joining the orchestra will be released soon.
“Today is Bhavatharini’s birthday, and coincidentally, it is also her ‘Thithi’ (ritual remembrance day). This is a sign that her soul has found peace,” he said. He further expressed hope that the orchestra would serve as a tribute to her memory and spread globally.
