If Tomorrow Comes: An inspiring short film by Padmashree Sunitha Krishnan

Sunitha Krishnan, the well-known social activist and Padmashree awardee, has come up with a short film titled 'If Tomorrow Comes'. Made as a lockdown-time musing, this is seemingly simple and yet both heart-touching and evocative.

Shot inside Sunitha's Hyderabad residence, this mono-act quickie has the activist musing about the lockdown, the hardships faced by migrants, the challenges faced by healthcare workers, etc.

Sunitha's emotional involvement is more vivid when she talks about how, in the first week of March, she was admitted to the Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad after she was suspected of showing Covid-19 symptoms. She eventually tested negative but the fear of death did kill her "fantasies".

From state preparedness to saying that the collective clapping exercise to show gratitude towards frontline warriors was welcome, she makes the musings relevant and opinionated. "The clapping exercise was not only symbolic but also forcefully drilled into the minds of millions that thousands are fighting heroically to keep us safe and that we shouldn't take their contribution for granted. Some people simply don't get it," she says.

If tomorrow comes, Sunitha says, I will emerge stronger, wiser and perhaps, more humbler. Wish everybody of us had the strength to say this!

Releasing the video, Sunitha tweets that the short film is a celebration of her "existence today". Shot by filmmaker Rajesh Touchriver, this one makes for a good family watch.
