The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has named Chanda Kochhar, the former CEO of ICICI Bank, her husband Deepak Kochhar and Venugopal Dhoot, the chairman of Videocon in their FIR in connection to the scam and frauds in the 3250 crores loans given to Videocon.
Chanda Kochhar had been the CEO of ICICI Bank previously, and her husband Deepak Kochhar was running a company named Nupower renewables. Videocon Chairman Venugopal Dhoot had invested crores of money in Nupower renewables, and following this, Chanda Kochhar had sanctioned loans worth 3200 crores for Videocon in 2012, and even then there were accusations of malpractices in the loan.
In 2017 the Videocon account was declared a Non performing asset as they were unable to repay 85% of the loan, following which the issue was taken to RBI, and ICICI had formed a commission to investigate the case. Chanda was sent on a leave, and CBI had conducted its inquiries with Chanda, Deepak and Venugopal, and today the case has made an advancement as CBI has filed FIR naming the three in the case, and raids have been conducted in their offices, where vital documents were seized.
