Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt has said that by creating AI-powered assault drones, White Stork, his new drone company, intends to help Ukraine Aiming to reduce the need for conventional ground fighting, the corporation wants to create drones able to independently detect targets, according to a Business Insider (BI) article.
Specifically stressing the damage of civilian areas, Schmidt voiced his annoyance with the devastation resulting from Russia's military actions in Ukraine during an April presentation at Stanford University. As BI reports, he stated, "Watching the Russians use tanks to destroy apartment buildings with little old ladies and kids just drove me crazy."
Now a certified arms dealer, Schmidt gently remarked on his unique professional path, stating, "A computer scientist, businessman, arms dealer. I would stick with artificial intelligence; I do not advise this line of work. Focusing on mass-producing advanced drones at less costs, Schmidt co-founded White Stork with Udacity CEO Sebastian Thrun. With government backing, the drones are meant to be sent straight to Ukraine to help with the continuous battle, according to the report.
Previously leading the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, Schmidt also made news recently berating Google for lagging behind in the AI race, citing the slow down on remote work practices. Speaking at Stanford, Schmidt said, "Google decided that work-life balance and working from home was more important than winning," according to a WSJ story.
