A study which was published months ago claiming that female doctors are provocative, unprofessional, and inappropriate for sharing their bikini photos on their social media, is now trending due to a protest on Twitter.
The study which was published online on December 25, 2019 in the Journal of Vascular Surgery had observed the social media accounts of 480 recent vascular-surgery graduates between 2016 and 2018.
Apparently, the researchers had created fake social media profiles to view the personal photos of the doctors and found that 61 of the 235 medical residents had unprofessional or potentially unprofessional content, defined as drinking alcohol, profane language, wearing Halloween costumes and bikini. However the study became free to view, and female doctors started sharing the seven-months-old study saying the that it shamed women doctors and using the hashtag #MedBikini they posted bikini selfies, along with details of their accomplishments in medicine, as a protest against the study.
Couple of "unprofessional" obstetrician gynecologists right here - but only one of us has been called "sweetie, kiddo, and/or hunny" in front of patients #MedBikini pic.twitter.com/p9Jf3iTBxC

It breaks my heart, but this just shows a peak behind the curtain at how behind and backwards the culture in medicine is. Here's a picture of me after finishing my leading Research Thesis on Emergency Vehicle Trauma. Doctors are people too #MedBikini pic.twitter.com/A4zrSYEFNo
