DMK’s working president M.K. Stalin has announced that the party would be staging protests outside PDS outlets in all the Districts in the State to protest against the recent hike in sugar prices announced by the EPS-OPS led AIADMK regime. Nov.06 has been fixed as the day of protest, he informed.
Price of sugar supplied to people via PDS ration shops has been increased steeply w.e.f. 01st November; the existing price of Rs.13.50 @ kilogram has been increased by Rs.11.50 to make the new price as Rs.25 per kg. In a statement issued, Stalin has strongly condemned the steep increase in the price of sugar.
“The weak State Government’s attitude in meekly surrendering to the BJP-led Centre by signing the Foot Protection Agreement is the main reason for the increase in price of sugar,” Stalin said in his statement. “The PDS system, whose performance was lauded even by the Supreme Court during the previous DMK regime, has now disintegrated,” he said.
“The horse-trading AIADMK regime, which has faltered in dal tender scam, SMART card tender scam and many other issues, continues to forfeit people’s interests and the State’s rights by not managing the revenues in a stream-lined manner,” he said.
