It is a well-known fact that veteran director AR Murugadoss is producing the Gautham Karthik starrer 'August 16 1947' under his banner Fox Star Studios. This is the first collaboration between these two. The film is touted to be a period drama set in the pre-Independence era of India.

Earlier today, AR Murugadoss took to his social media page to announce the film's official release date, April 7. Sharing a new poster, the renowned hitmaker wrote, "Exciting news! My next production film #1947August16 is all ready to hit the big screens on 'APRIL 7th' - WORLDWIDE. Get ready to travel back to a time of courage, love and hope!"

Directed by NS Ponkumar, the movie tells the tale of a remote village where one man battles British forces. 'August 16 1947' stars Gautham Karthik, Revathy Richard Ashton, Cooku with Comali fame Pugazh and others in the lead roles. The technical crew includes music by Sean Roldan, Selvakumar SK cranking the camera and Sudharsan on the edit.
