Deva Katta Presents ‘Jo Jo’: A Raw, Rustic Romantic Comedy Set in Jonnagiri

Renowned filmmaker Deva Katta, known for his serious and idea-driven films, is now venturing into a completely different genre with ‘Jo Jo’, a raw and rustic romantic comedy set against the ultra-rural diamond fields of Jonnagiri.

Written and directed by Kiran Jay Kumar, known for Mayasabha, the film promises an unconventional blend of romance, comedy, ambition, greed and adventure. The title announcement has already created curiosity with its distinctive premise and earthy presentation.

A Diamond Hunt That Goes Awry

Set in the drought-hit landscapes of Jonnagiri, ‘Jo Jo’ follows two penniless dreamers and a fearless young woman who embark on a desperate search for a life-changing diamond. They believe that finding the precious stone could completely transform their fortunes.

However, their hunt soon takes an unexpected turn. What begins as a straightforward search for wealth gradually turns into a chaotic journey filled with romance, comic situations, greed, betrayal and danger.

The film revolves around the eccentric characters and bizarre situations they encounter while chasing the elusive diamond, promising a quirky romantic comedy with a distinctly rural flavour.

“Stay Away, Sentiments Batch!”

The title announcement poster reflects the film’s raw and earthy setting, with the rugged landscape of Jonnagiri serving as the backdrop.

Adding to the film’s irreverent tone, the poster carries the tongue-in-cheek warning, “హెచ్చరిక: మనోభావాల బ్యాచ్ దూరంగా ఉండండి!” (Warning: Sentiments batch, stay away!). The tagline hints at the makers’ intention to present the romance and comedy in an unfiltered and unconventional manner.

Impressive Cast and Technical Crew

Produced by Vijay Krishna Lingamaneni under the Vijayam banner, ‘Jo Jo’ features Krishna Kamal and Maahi Sri as Seenu and Supraja, respectively.

The supporting cast includes Phanindra Devarapalli as Venkatesh, Prabhavathi as Vijayamma, Mahaboob Basha as Suri, Satish Devatte Tanjore as Rangasaami, Puduru Sharath Babu as Ramana and Makarand Deshpande as Mukesh Shah.

Rohith Kumar is handling the cinematography, while Mahesh Shankar is composing the music. Madhav Kumar Gullapalli is the editor. Rehman, Srinivas Mouli and Ramachandra have penned the lyrics.

‘Mayasabha’ Team Reunites

Interestingly, Deva Katta, Kiran Jay Kumar and Vijay Krishna Lingamaneni have previously collaborated on Mayasabha: Rise of the Titans. While that project explored a politically charged and serious world, the trio is now coming together for an entirely different cinematic experience.

This shift in tone makes ‘Jo Jo’ particularly intriguing. Deva Katta’s association with the project, combined with Kiran Jay Kumar’s direction and the unusual diamond-hunt premise, has already generated curiosity among moviegoers.

With its drought-hit setting, eccentric characters and an unpredictable treasure hunt at its core, ‘Jo Jo’ aims to offer a romantic comedy with a distinctly raw and rustic identity. The title announcement marks the beginning of the film’s promotional campaign, with more details regarding the cast, content and release plans expected to be revealed soon.
