Delhi High Court Grants Interim Relief to Naga Chaitanya in Personality Rights Case

Actor Naga Chaitanya has secured interim protection from the Delhi High Court in a personality rights lawsuit concerning the alleged unauthorized use of his name, image, likeness, and identity across various online platforms.

The matter came up before Justice Jyoti Singh, who heard submissions from Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, representing the actor. According to the petition, several websites were allegedly misusing Naga Chaitanya’s name in combination with explicit search terms to attract online traffic and promote objectionable content.

The suit also highlighted the sale of unauthorized merchandise featuring the actor’s likeness without his consent. In addition, concerns were raised over the circulation of AI-generated and manipulated content, along with allegedly defamatory material linked to the actor’s personal life.

Taking note of the allegations, the Court issued summons to the defendants and directed them to submit their responses. The actor has also sought a dynamic injunction, a legal remedy that would enable authorities to block newly emerging infringing websites and URLs without requiring separate proceedings for each instance.

The case is expected to play an important role in defining the extent of legal protection available to celebrities against online misuse, AI-generated impersonation, and unauthorized commercial exploitation of their personality rights in the digital age.

The matter will now be taken up for further consideration after the defendants file their responses, with the Court set to examine the broader implications of personality rights and digital identity protection.
