Deepika Padukone has been lauded ever since the trailer of ‘Chhapaak’ was unveiled Tuesday morning. The Bollywood star actress plays an acid victim in the Hindi-language movie. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film tells the story of Malti, who was attacked with acid on a street in New Delhi, in 2005.
“Through her story, ‘Chhapaak’ makes an attempt to understand the on-ground consequences of surviving an acid attack in India, the medico-legal-social state of affairs that transpires after the acid has been hurled and the face is irreparably burnt,” says director Gulzar.
Talking about doing the film with a “powerful subject,” Deepika says, “Rarely do you come across a story where you do not need an entire narration to decide if you want to be a part of a film or not. What is even rarer is to not be able to articulate and put into words what you feel for the film and its journey.”
The film will hit the screens on January 10.
