With his debut film 'Rajathandhiram', young and promising talent Darbuka Siva become so popular among Tamil movie buffs as he played a comical supporting character in the heist thriller. Many were quite surprised when he was announced as the music director of Sasikumar-Nikhila Vimal starrer 'Kidaari'.
But those who knew his background were expecting this to happen sooner or later as he is successful as an independent musician who claims to have developed interest towards music by listening to Ilaiayraja and started his band to focus on Spanish and South American music.
The songs of 'Kidaari' have topped the charts and repeatedly playing in FM channels as they have come as a novel version of rural music. In this exclusive interview to IndiaGlitz, Siva shares his journey into 'Kidaari' and what it has to offer in the music front.
"Director Prasath Murugesan worked as Executive producer in 'Rajathandhiram' and we shared a good rapport and used to discuss various topics. He had narrated 'Kidaari' idea at that time itself.
One week after 'Rajathandhiram' release he called me and asked whether I am interested in doing film music He felt my independent musician background will suit the requirements of the film. I was not sure whether I had the knack to cater to the needs of film music which has to reach a wide spectrum of audience. But I thought I can try it with a film like this.
While initially I was not confident. with the reception for songs, I got the confidence to do the rerecording. Prasath had narrated the full script with every single dialogue to me. While working on the songs itself, I started doing the themes for each important character. Since I knew the characters and situations well it was very helpful for me. After I got the visuals they just got enhanced. That's why we added an instrumental in the music album itself.
In terms of style and approach, we have balanced Tamil folk music with world music elements. We followed the same approach for Background score. Base will be rural sounds but added many world music elements. We have retained the balance keeping the accessibility factor of audience. We have neither experimented too much nor opted for cliched "
Darbuka Siva is not to be seen in any film as an actor for the past one year. Quiz him about this, he says he in no hurry to accept projects and is determined to do only the films that interest him. He has acted with Dhanush in 'Thodari' directed by Prabhu Solomon and will start shooting for 'Rajathandhiram 2'
'Kidaari' will be hitting the screens worldwide tomorrow (September 2) amid a good level of expectations. We wish the film as well as its musical reaps success and Darbuka Siva gets more and more films as a music director.
