Most recently, the nephew of Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy reportedly made an "offensive" post on Prophet Muhammad. The post has triggered riots in East Bengaluru, resulting in the death of three people. So far, 100 violators have been arrested.
Reports say that violence erupted on Tuesday (August 11) night at 8:15 pm or so. The police couldn't have brought the mobs under control without using force.
KG Halli and DJ Halli police station limits saw a heavy deployment of police to bring the situation under control.
Commenting on the riots, columnist Sunanda Vashisht tweeted, "3 people dead, 60 policemen injured, 110 arsonists arrested, Section 144 in the entire city of Bengaluru, Dalit MLA’s house burnt - all because of a Facebook post."
BJP leader BL Santhosh slammed the Congress party over its "silence" on the issue. "Dead silence by the Congress party even after their Dalit MLA Sri Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy was attacked, house ransacked yesterday in Bengaluru. Total support for RIGHT TO RIOT? For them, appeasement is the only official party policy," he tweeted.
