Suresh Raina is a super famous former Indian team cricketer. He is an aggressive left-handed middle-order batter and an occasional off-spin bowler who is also considered as one of the best fielders in world cricket. Fans fondly call him 'Chinna Thala' as he is a younger brother figure to Thala MS Dhoni.
Raina served as the former vice-captain of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and has played for the franchise for 12 years. He also captained Gujarat Lions when CSK was in a ban of 2 years. The power hitter is the first Indian batsman to hit a century in all three formats of international cricket.
Suresh Raina is referred to as the "Mr IPL" for his fiery batting and fielding performance. He has been an impeccable batter who scares the bowlers and holds a top place in numerous IPL batting records. Now, the heartbreaking news is that Suresh Raina will not be a part of IPL 2022. The 35-age-player was not retained by Chennai Super Kings and the franchise hasn't shown any interest in buying him in the mega auction.
Not only CSK but no other team was willing to buy Mr IPL in the mega auction owing to his poor form in recent years. It is notable that Raina has retired from international cricket and has also not taken part in any domestic tournaments. He went unsold in the first round and the first acceleration set too. Suresh Raina was pulled out of the auction in the second acceleration set after no team had shown interest in him.
It is probably the end of the road for Suresh Raina in IPL too. But if he chooses to play domestic tournaments and get back to his form, there will be heavy competition among the teams to get the Mr IPL. CSK fans and Raina fans have been upset over the franchise's decision to leave him. They are heartbroken to see that their idol is left unsold. This will be the first time an IPL season will happen without the IPL superstars Raina, AB De Villiers and Chris Gayle.
In a video shared by CSK on their YouTube channel, the CEO Kasi Viswanath said, "Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for CSK for the last 12 years. Of course, it was very difficult for us, no to have Raina but at the same time you should also understand that the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have so that’s one of the reasons why we thought he may not fit into this team."
