The caste certificates produced by MLAs and MPs are usually vetted with utmost accuracy, considering the sensitive nature of the issue. In a piece of shocking news, parliamentarian Navneet Kaur Rana has been found by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court to have produced a fabricated caste certificate ahead of the 2019 General Elections. Rana is the independent MP representing Amaravathi in Maharashtra.

Imposing a fine of Rs 2 lakh, the HC cancelled the Scheduled Caste certificate of the said MP. The court said, "Since she got it validated fraudulently from Caste Scrutiny Committee by producing fabricated and fraudulent documents, her caste certificate is cancelled and stands confiscated."
What next? Will the MP be disqualified? The disqualification is not automatic. The HC will now inform the Election Commission, which will take a call on the subject.
Not many know that Rana has acted in a few less-known Telugu films in the past. She took to politics in 2014 and contested as an MP. But she lost the election. She fought the 2019 election with renewed vigour. Her husband Ravi Rana floated a party named Yuva Swabhimani Paksha (YSP).
After today's court order, Rana has decided to move the Supreme Court for justice.
