Nirmala Sitharaman, who was the Defence Minister in the previous government, has been given the Ministry of Finance by Narendra Modi. She has stepped into the shoes of Arun Jaitley, who is recuperating from illnesses.

The 59-year-old woman will also handle the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in the new government. "She obtained a BA in economics at the Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College in Tiruchirapalli and a master's degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi in 1984," says a Wikipedia post.

Expectedly, BJP President Amit Shah has been given Home Ministry. Rajnath Singh will handle the Defence Ministry. Smriti Irani, who has defeated Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, has got Ministry of Women & Child Development. Prakash Javadekar, the HRD Minister in the previous regime, has been appointed as Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; and Minister of Information and Broadcasting. Piyush Goyal, not so unexpectedly, has got Minister of Railways and Minister of Commerce and Industry.
