Mehreen Pirzada awaits the release of 'Aswathama' on January 31. Starring Naga Shaurya as the hero, this one is described as an emotional thriller.  In this interview, the actress talks about the subject of the film, her role, what to expect from it and more.  

Title justification

Aswathama is anyone who stands up against wrongdoing.  The title does total justice to the story, which is close to Naga Shaurya's heart.  He wrote the story based on an incident that happened to his friend's sister in Mumbai.  

A helping heroine

My character helps the male lead and guides him through.  She is his girlfriend and also helps him in different ways.  There are a few goosebumpy scenes in the movie that will make the audience root for the proceedings. 

A voice against crimes against women

Atrocities on women make women think that they are not safe.  For a woman, her life is not safe right from her birth.  I wanted to be a part of a film like 'Aswathama' for this reason.  It's very important for everyone to watch a film like this.  It's not just one Aswathama that is there.  He is there in all of us.  We need to bring him out so that the world becomes a better place.

No point in outraging on Twitter

It's already very hurtful when atrocities on women take place.  The family members of victims are deeply devastated.  When we tweet about such incidents, we are only talking over them and not doing anything.    

Social change can come with attitudinal changes.  Films are just a medium to highlight issues.  Change has to come from within us. 

No comedy, only thrills

This is not a comedic movie.  You can't put humour in everything.  This film is very emotional.  It's gripping right from the start and will have you think about what might come next.  There are no comedians in the movie.  I haven't watched the movie yet.  I too don't know who is the film's villain.  I heard that he has done a great job.  There is a romantic track in the movie but it's subdued.  

First of its kind for me

Compared to my previous movies, this is totally different. I haven't done this genre before.  This is an emotional thriller first.  The film is not at all preachy.  The film is a mix of fact and fiction.  For example, the antagonist's character is a fiction.  Since the film deals with a sensitive issue, as a woman, you are attached in a special way.  

Working with Shaurya

Naga Shaurya was a nice person to work with.  I had seen his 'Oohalu Gusagusalade' and 'Chalo'.  He has given his all for this movie, him being an extremely hardworking person.  The moment the camera starts, he is a different person.  He is a shy person off-screen.  

Three releases in one month

'Aswathama' is my third release this month, the first two being 'Entha Manchivaadavuraa' and 'Pattas' (Tamil).  The Tamil movie has been a blockbuster, while 'EM' hasn't reached the audience the way it was intended to.  The result has disappointed us.
