Republic Media Network has announced that it will be setting up a TV channel in the Bengali language very soon. Issuing a recruitment ad, it said that the journalists seeking to work for the channel must come with prior experience.
Arnab Goswami has been ruling the roost in English and Hindi segments already. Republic TV didn't take much time to become No. 1 and beat Times Now and other channels hollow. R. Bharat, the Hindi-language channel, too has been topping the viewership charts, scaring its competitors.
It's said that Republic TV is going to target the ruling TMC in West Bengal once it launches its Bengali channel. Bengal is going for polls in Summer 2021. The BJP is billed to wrest power from Mamata Banerjee. Since Arnab is pro-BJP and has a track record of attacking anti-BJP parties, he is expected to guide the channel's editorial policy in such a way that the saffron party will benefit.
Bengal has been reeling under a massive blackout and disinformation campaign by BJP's rivals in the media. TMC has been spearheading political violence. Recently, BJP's National President JP Nadda's convoy was attacked in Bengal by goons. Arnab's fans feel that his channel will be exposing the misdeeds of the TMC.
