Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan generously donated ₹1 crore to Telangana’s Chief Minister Relief Fund. He personally met Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the latter’s residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, to hand over the cheque in support of flood relief efforts.
Earlier, Pawan Kalyan had announced this donation to assist Telangana in its flood relief measures. In addition, he pledged ₹1 lakh each to 400 flood-affected gram panchayats in Andhra Pradesh, bringing his total donation for flood relief in both Telugu states to ₹6 crore. This includes ₹1 crore each for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana’s Chief Minister Relief Funds (CMRF), and ₹4 crore specifically earmarked for relief efforts in the 400 villages of Andhra Pradesh.
During their meeting, the two leaders are believed to have discussed inter-state relations and other pressing issues. This marked their first formal interaction since Pawan Kalyan assumed office as Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister in June, following the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance’s landslide victory in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. It was also their first meeting since Revanth Reddy became Telangana’s Chief Minister in December 2023.
Pawan Kalyan expressed his hope that Revanth Reddy would lead Telangana towards development and fulfil the aspirations of its people. Both leaders have publicly acknowledged their personal friendship, with Revanth Reddy also having congratulated Pawan Kalyan when he took office as Deputy Chief Minister on June 12, 2024.
Although Pawan Kalyan was not present during the talks between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments held in Hyderabad in July, where both Chief Ministers Revanth Reddy and N. Chandrababu Naidu led discussions on resolving post-bifurcation issues, the meeting marked a positive step in inter-state collaboration. Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and several Andhra Pradesh ministers also attended this meeting, held on July 6, 2024.
