Veteran actress Mohini, best remembered for her role in Aditya 369, has recently opened up about a traumatic experience from her career. Having acted in over 100 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, Mohini recalled how she was pressured into performing a bikini sequence in the film Kanmani.
Speaking to Aval Vikatan, Mohini revealed that the controversial song Udal Thazhuva became a major talking point, but behind the scenes, she felt “unsettled and humiliated.” She said director RK Selvamani insisted on filming a swimsuit sequence despite her repeated refusals.
“I was extremely uncomfortable. I cried and refused to do it. The shoot was even halted for half a day,” Mohini recalled. She explained that she didn’t know how to swim and felt it was impossible to learn “half-dressed” in front of male instructors, especially when female trainers were not available at the time. “It felt like I was forced into doing something against my will,” she said.
Eventually, she gave in and filmed part of the sequence, but when asked to reshoot the scene in Ooty, she put her foot down. “They told me the film wouldn’t continue, but I said that was their problem. I had already been forced once, and I wouldn’t do it again,” Mohini asserted.
The actress stressed that Kanmani was the only film in which she appeared overly glamorous without her consent. She admitted the controversies overshadowed her actual performance in the film.
Beyond Kanmani, Mohini has delivered memorable performances in films like Hitler, Innathe Chintha Vishayam, Oru Maravathoor Kanavu, Vesham, and also appeared opposite Akshay Kumar in the Hindi film Dancer (1991).
Mohini’s revelation sheds light on the challenges many actresses faced in the industry, often forced into roles or scenes they were deeply uncomfortable with.
