Recently, actor and director Bhagyaraj alleged in a video that some people were being drowned and killed by certain people with a motive while they were being taken to the Bhavani River to visit as tourists. He stated that the deceased were then being taken into negotiation. The video went viral on the internet in no time, and the police responded to that on an immediate basis.
The police issued a statement saying that none of the above-mentioned incidents had taken place in the past two years and further indirectly threatened the rumor mongers with taking legal action.
After the police released their statement, Bhagyaraj released another video, saying that he meant something else when he made his earlier statement. He claimed to have just mentioned what he had heard 40 years ago. He said he was not trying to point fingers at the police or spread news. Bhagyaraj insisted that he was only reporting what he heard people say and that he did not know why they spread such news.
Even though the police denied the allegations, Bhagyaraj was adamant about his statements, saying that many people told him that such incidents had even occurred in recent years too. He stated that he had no intentions of causing harm or spreading misinformation, but what he had heard was too important not to share.
Meanwhile, that claim by Bhagyaraj has led to a controversy about the reliability of the data being floated on social media and how far the public figures are responsible to voice out such statements responsibly.
