There have been many songs that stay with us regardless of when they released. We may have heard them as children or seen them on TV once, but that has been enough to make us put them on repeat mode. Here is a list of ten songs that have gotten me singing every time they’re played. If you haven’t heard any of these songs, don’t wait... Open YouTube, get typing and fall in love with these beautiful renditions.
Sippi Irukkuthu - Some of you may have never heard of this song. All the more reason to listen to it. You’ve been missing out all these days. Composed by the late M.S. Viswanathan and starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi, this melody is sure to find a place in your heart.
Ithu Oru Ponmalai - This catchy song by ‘Isaignani’ Ilayaraja is a dream that takes you far away from reality for those few minutes. Sung by SP Balasubramaniam, this 39-year-old song continues to remain as fresh as ever.
Ilaya Nila - This song is pure genius. It seems as if no one other than Ilayaraja could have composed this perfect song. From the 1982 movie ‘Payanangal Mudivathillai’, presenting to you one of my childhood favourites that still has me as hooked as ever.
Munbe Vaa - The words 'breathtakingly beautiful’ seem to have been made for this song composed by ‘Isai Puyal’ AR Rahman. If this song continues to play on TV almost every day, it’s because you can appreciate the music, Shreya Goshal’s voice and everything else about it, forever.
Nila Kaigirathu - There’s a reason why AR Rahman has won Academy Awards and countless more titles. It’s because he has musical superpowers, I’m telling you. This song sung by Harini (female version) and Hariharan (male version), will get you shaking your head and singing within seconds.
Oru Maalai - This melody by Harris Jayaraj is extremely captivating. Listen to it once and guaranteed you’ll be downloading it. From the super hit movie ‘Ghajini’, the song promises to lift up your spirits.
Mundhinam Parthene - Another Suriya, Harris Jayaraj hit number, ‘Mundhinam Parthene’ is a beauty crooned by Naresh Iyer that will get you love-struck.
Hosanna - A peppy number, Hosanna, with its music and visuals, is another song which many will name as their favourite. It’s one of the many hit songs from the movie ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa.’
Neeyum Naanum - One of the younger music composers to join the list is none other than Anirudh Ravichander. With hits in every movie and awards too, he has proved himself time and time again. This is one song from ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ in which he has really outdone himself with the music and of course, his voice.
Naan Nee - Composed by Santosh Narayanan, this song is sung by Shakthisree Gopalan and is the perfect sing along. Surely it will stand the test of time and continue to be listened to for years to come.
While numerically these may only amount to a speck on the universe of music that exists, they still hold a meaningful place in our hearts. There are hundreds of more songs we need to be thankful for because they keep us going every day. But I’ll leave you with these 10 songs for now, until next time.
