The prestigious Cannes Film Festival showcasing the best of world cinema is underway from May 17th and will go till Saturday May 28th. This year there has been a much bigger representation of Indian cinema than ever before. Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’, Madhavan’s ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’, Pa Ranjith’s ‘Vettuvam’, Parthiban’s ‘Iravin Nizhal’ and A.R. Rahman’s ‘Le Musk’ are some of the films that had their premiere or launches there.
On May 20th, George Miller’s much anticipated ‘Three Thousand Years Of Longing’ starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton had its golden premiere with the stars in attendance. During the red carpet a screamng woman suddenly invaded stripped naked with the words ‘Stop Raping Us’ and ‘SCUM’ written on her chest and back respectively.
Security men took swift action to cover her up and also stopped cameras that tried to film her. The woman was said to have protested against reports of mounting rape and torture of Ukrainian women by the Russian forces. She was removed from the area while celebrities and common folk are divided in their support for her on social media.
