The military authorities living in the Secunderabad Cantonment area have been accused by the Telangana government of blocking roads and causing inconvenience to commuters. As per a report by TNIE, the defence areas in Cantonment limits in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, administered by the Local Military Authority (LMA), have been causing inconvenience to citizens by closing the roads, obstructing the free flow of stormwater by building check dams and creating hurdles in developmental works.
The issue has now reached Assembly. On Saturday, replying to a question, KTR said that the government has taken up the issue with the Central government quite a few times but to no avail. Therefore, KTR said, action will be taken to make the Cantonment authorities fall in line.
KTR said that, if needed, electricity and water supplies will be cut off to the Cantonment. His strong warning is drawing mixed reactions.
Wrote Twitter user Aditya Jakki, "While the issue is genuine and the points KTR raised are genuine, the way he framed it has chances to backfire. No matter the merit of the issue, when it comes to matters of army men, one has to be clever in communication." KTR is receiving support as well. "If anyone lived in cantonment for a week, they would know the inconvenience. Military authorities have become a blocker for any development activities in that area and they are displaying a headstrong attitude whenever the state government tries to reach out to them," wrote Satheesh, another Twitter user.
We will cut power and water if needed to military authorities says @ktrtrs venting ire over inconvenience caused to public.
