Wife Of Ram was challenging to do: Raghu Dixit

Raghu Dixit is the music director of 'Wife Of Ram', the Lakshmi Manchu-starring thriller. Ahead of its release on July 20, the musician shares talk about the film, his approach and more.

How did this film happen to you?

I have done Bollywood and Sandalwood movies in the past. 'Wife Of Ram' is my first Telugu movie. I met the film's director through director Tharun Bhascker. When he asked me to compose music for this movie, I asked me as to how many songs he needs. He told me the film has no songs. So, I had to compose a background score. I had watched a few Telugu films before to observe their RR and gave an output. The director didn't like it. He wanted something new. I took time to tailor-make a score for him.

How was it a different experience to work with this film?

I had done only romantic and youthful entertainers in the past. But 'WOR' is a suspense thriller. It's edge of the seat. The BGM is in such a way that the audience feels as if he is traveling with the proceedings while watching it.

Was it a challenging experience to do this thriller?

It was challenging to compose music for a film sans songs. I had to give my best within budgetary constraints. For a first film, it's difficult to impress the audience without songs.

With who are you in touch in Tollywood?

I became a fan of Tharun Bhascker on watching 'Pelli Choopulu'. I befriended him on Facebook. Recently when I met him, I expressed my desire to work with him. I am looking forward to doing Telugu movies.

You are multi-talented. Isn't it?

I am a music composer first, only then am I a singer. It's very difficult to sing songs for someone else's tune. But I get a lot of opportunities as a singer. I like to compose music because I never learned it formally. I worked as a scientist after studying Micro Biology. I have learned Bharatanatyam as well. Music has always been my hobby. I have sung for the likes of Devi Sri Prasad and Thaman. I like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio.
