When OpenAI's ChatGPT made its debut back in November 2022, it left everyone in awe. The arrival of this innovative tool sparked widespread curiosity, with people eager to put its capabilities to the test. ChatGPT quickly gained fame for its remarkably human-like responses to a wide range of inquiries, from poetry and music composition to solving math problems and assisting students with assignments. Its rapid success prompted other tech giants to ramp up their efforts in the AI chatbot space.

One notable absence from the generative AI landscape was Meta, formerly known as Facebook. However, that changed with the unveiling of Meta AI during the Meta Connect 2023 event. Meta AI, the company's AI-powered chat assistant, was introduced with plans to integrate it into WhatsApp. Although initially rolled out to select US users in November last year, Indian users had to wait for access. Now, reports from several Indian users on X indicate that they can utilize the Meta AI chatbot on WhatsApp, signaling its expansion to other countries.

Screenshots shared on Twitter reveal the Meta AI chatbox interface, featuring prompts like "Ask Meta AI anything" accompanied by suggestions such as "invent a new cuisine," "poem of the day," and "futuristic sitcom plots."

To access the AI assistant, users can tap on a small icon located at the top right corner, adorned with a brightly-lit ring reflecting various colors. It's important to note that only a limited number of users in India currently have access to the chatbot via WhatsApp. Hence, it's advisable to update the app to see if the feature is available.

Meta had previously stated that their AI chatbot leverages their latest advancements in large language model research, combined with the robust Llama 2 model. Additionally, Meta collaborated with Microsoft's Bing Chat to enhance the chatbot's capabilities, enabling real-time web results. Reports also suggest that Meta's AI chatbot allows users to generate realistic images from scratch using a simple '/imagine' command, akin to existing text-to-image generators like MidJourney and Bing Image Creator.

With WhatsApp beginning to roll out Meta AI in India, it's anticipated that more users will gain access to the feature in the near future.
