Veteran Writer-Director-Actor Erode Sounder passed away at the age of 63 due to kidney-related ailments that he was battling for the past five years. It is said that on Saturday he went to a private hospital for dialysis when he experiences breathing difficulties and was admitted to the intensive care but did not respond to treatment and breathed his last at 1.35pm. His last rites will be held on Sunday December 6th in his hometown Pallipalayam.
Sounder had a memorable debut in 1991 winning the Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Story Writer and Dialogue Writer for 'Cheran Pandian' directed by K.S. Ravikumar and started a long association between the two. Though he directed two films 'Putham Puthu Payanam' and 'Simmarasi' starring Sararthkuamar he is best remembered for his writing and acting in the monster hit 'Naattaamai'.
Erode Sounder who has written sixteen films and acted in six including Rajinikanth's 'Lingaa' and Kamal's 'Dasavatharam' is survived by his wife Valarmathi and daughters Kalaiyarasi and Gayathrie who are both married and settled.
