Venkat Prabhu is the pioneer of the new age cinema in Kollywood with his pathbreaking 'Chennai 600028' and has since made the highly entertaining 'Saroja', 'Goa', 'Mankatha' and 'Chennai 600028 2'. His current project is the Simbu-Kalyani Priyadarshan starter 'Maanadu' and has also signed a project with Raghava Lawrence in the lead.

Venkat Prabhu has shared on Twitter two letters that were written by the legendary directors K. Balachander and Bharathiraja. He has gushed "Here I am sharing the two letters I treasure for life!! A letter from iyakkunar sigaram and iyakkunar imayam!! What more a director need than this?!!.

Bharathiraja in his letter has praised the way that Venkat Prabhu has designed the screenplay of 'Chennai 28'breaking all norms of the formulaic "Beginning", "Middle" and "End' and instead focussing on only capturing real-life situations in the most entertaining manner and etching out all ten characters close to the audience's sentiments.

Balachander, on the other hand, has compared the effort to Aamir Khan's Oscar-nominated 'Lagaan' and has praised the real to life depiction of characters, dialogues and situations and has likened VP to a gold medal-winning student of cinema.
