Among the young brigade of actresses, it is Varalakshmi Sarathkumar who is taking up challenging roles in both commercial as well as offbeat experimental films. She is currently playing the lead in 'Velvet Nagaram' and the teaser that has come out promises to be a thriller in the true sense of the word.

The 'Velvet Nagaram' teaser shows Varu a journalist caught in a world of crime, drugs and extreme violence. The cuts depict the lead character in a very defensive position which suggests that she would be getting into big action later on in the story in the film. The cinematography, music and editing reveal the film to be a new age thriller and the first moving look gives a positive vibe towards it.

'Velvet Nagaram' is directed by debutante Manojkumar Natarajan with Achu Rajamani providing the music score. The starcast includes Kasthuri, Ramesh Thilak and Arjai.
