The shooting of director S. S. Rajamouli’s much-anticipated magnum opus has officially moved out of Hyderabad, with the next major schedule set to unfold in Georgia. The ambitious project, mounted on a massive global canvas, continues to expand its international footprint as production progresses at a brisk pace.
Headlined by Mahesh Babu, the film features global star Priyanka Chopra in a pivotal role as Mandarin. Mahesh Babu was spotted at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday, departing to join the Georgia schedule. His airport appearance quickly sparked excitement among fans, signaling the commencement of an important leg in the film’s production.
Sources indicate that the Georgia schedule will primarily cover sequences rooted in a mythical backdrop, forming a crucial narrative layer of the film. Earlier, the team completed significant portions in Kenya, where extensive action and adventure episodes were filmed against expansive natural landscapes.

Touted as a high-budget adventure thriller, the film reportedly blends elements inspired by the epic Ramayana with an intriguing time-travel dimension. The fusion of mythology and science fiction, combined with Rajamouli’s signature large-scale storytelling, positions the film as one of the most ambitious Indian cinematic ventures aimed at global audiences.
Following the Georgia schedule, the unit is expected to move to several additional international locations to shoot key sequences integral to the film’s globe-trotting narrative. With its scale, star power, and genre-blending premise, the project is already generating substantial buzz across markets.
“Varanasi” is slated for a grand worldwide release on April 7, 2027, and is being positioned as a landmark cinematic event in Indian cinema’s international expansion.
