Uber, a reputed global transportation technology company has created fear and anxiety by divulging that last year alone hackers downloaded personal information from over 57 million driver and rider accounts. The company also admitted that even though it was aware of it, it had not disclosed the data breach to its users.
Moreover, Uber had kept it a secret after paying a ransom of $100,000 dollars to hackers who demanded the money if the stolen information must be erased. Also Uber claims that important informaton as to bank and credit card details, trip location history and social security numbers remained safe.
Pertaining to this, the company’s security officer Joe Sullivan has been fired. It is also notable that such a data breach is not the first Uber is dealing with. In 2014, data of 50,000 drivers were compromised as well for which a lawsuit was filed against the company.
