TVK Leader Vijay Slams Tamil Nadu Government Over Police Assault on Women Party Members: “This is Fascism, Not Democracy”

TVK (Tamil Nadu Victory Party) leader Vijay has strongly condemned the Tamil Nadu government and police department following an alleged assault on party members who were providing relief to fire victims in Vyasarpadi, Chennai. In a detailed statement on social media platform X, Vijay accused the ruling DMK government of running a “fascist regime fueled by arrogance of power.”

The incident took place after a massive fire broke out in Mullai Nagar, Vyasarpadi, where several huts were destroyed. Thanks to swift action by the fire department, casualties were prevented and many homes were saved. The displaced families were relocated temporarily to a nearby school.

TVK party members visited the shelter site to distribute humanitarian aid—including clothes, mats, blankets, and food. According to Vijay, while the affected people were receptive, police personnel allegedly intervened aggressively, stopping the volunteers from distributing supplies.

Things escalated when Gangavathi, a 45-year-old district executive committee member, questioned the police action. She was allegedly kicked in the stomach and shoved to the ground by officers. Another party member, Tamilselvi, who tried to intervene, was reportedly dragged by her clothes, which were torn in the process. Both women were injured and are receiving treatment at Stanley Government Hospital.

Vijay questioned the motives behind stopping relief efforts and asked whether Chief Minister M.K. Stalin endorsed such police brutality. He demanded to know if orders were given from the top to treat women volunteers in such a degrading and violent manner.

“This is not democracy. This is fascism, plain and simple,” he said, emphasizing that violence against women—especially those attempting to help the vulnerable—is unacceptable. He accused the DMK-led government of running a state that is increasingly unsafe for women and warned that if such “anarchy” continues, TVK will launch mass protests and take legal action.

Vijay concluded by calling for immediate disciplinary action against the officers involved and reiterated that the police force must not become a tool of political oppression.
