Former US President Donald Trump announced that the "largest domestic deportation operation in American history" would take place if he won the 2024 presidential election. He promised to end the Biden administration’s open border policy by invoking the Eisenhower model to utilize all necessary resources for a deportation operation. This is not the first time that Trump has spoken of deporting undocumented people.
During his presidency in 2019, he threatened millions of them and even promised to quickly remove those who entered the US illegally.
Recently, Trump was indicted on felony charges of trying to overturn the results of 2020 and conspiring to riot at the Capitol. He dismissed these counts as nothing but political. Despite legal problems, he keeps attacking special counsel Jack Smith and maintaining their focus on criminal cases against him.
Although Trump usually says that legal matters strengthen his campaign, he said the toll they are taking "My political operation had spent over $40 million on legal fees this year," Trump revealed in an interview with 60 Minutes. These investigations divert his attention and resources away from his campaign.
As the 2024 presidential race draws near, Trump’s stance on immigration and ongoing legal battles shape his story. His promise of a massive deportation operation highlights the commitment many in his party have to a strict immigration policy, while his ongoing legal struggles impact efforts in his campaign.
