Toilet paper is Pakistan flag on Google? Find out here

There has been this belief that certain Google searches, for example, “best toilet paper in the world”, “best China-made toilet paper” and “toilet paper”, commonly throw up one result on Google: the Pakistani national flag.  This belief has been spread by several WhatsApp forwards ever since the recent Pulwama attacks.

Why does Google show Pak’s flag for toilet paper?  Is it because its algorithms were tinkered with deliberately?  The company today officially issued a statement on the issue.  “We have not found any evidence that our search engine ranks the Pakistani flag in response to certain search entries,” the company said.

The spokesperson of Google added that the rumour pertains to an old meme.
