Not many know that Bhanumathi was to do the iconic 1955 movie 'Missamma'.  Director LV Prasad actually shot four reels with her as the heroine.  Some of the scenes were filmed on NT Rama Rao and her.  

On a day, Bhanumathi was late to the shoot because she had to perform a ritual at home.  This angered producer Nagi Reddy, who asked her to apologize for her wrong.  An obstinate Bhanumathi refused.  This is when, so goes an anecdote, Nagi Reddy spontaneously decided to burn the four reels shot with her as the heroine.

After the dispute, Bhanumathi exited the project.  This is when Savitri was cast as Mary/Mahalakshmi.  The NTR-ANR starrer went on to become of the greatest films in the history of Telugu cinema.  It was also to be one of the best films in Savitri's career.
