A double treat is brewing for the fans on the occasion of Pongal 2023 with the release of Varisu and Thunivu. After nine years, Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar's movies are clashing at the box office. Both films will be storming the screens worldwide on 12 January 2023.

Varisu is a bilingual film directed by Vamshi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju. Lalit Kumar's Seven Screen Studio bought the distribution rights of Varisu in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, Thunivu is directed by H Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor. Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies acquired the distribution rights of Thunivu in Tamil Nadu.

A couple of weeks ago, the makers of the Thalapathy Vijay starrer officially announced that Red Giant Movies will be releasing Varisu as well, in four major regions of Tamil Nadu. Now, the latest is that Varisu producer Dil Raju will be releasing Ajith Kumar's Thunivu in select areas in Andhra Pradesh.

'Thunivu', which is titled 'Thegimpu' in Telugu, will be released via Radha Krishna Entertainments in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. According to the latest reports, Dil Raju obtained the distribution rights of Thunivu in Niazam and Vizag areas. Sources say that the other distributors were not ready to buy Thunivu in Telugu states due to the Sankranti clash.

For the unversed, Megastar Chiranjeevi starrer 'Waltair Veerayya' and Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer 'Veera Simha Reddy' are gearing up for a grand Pongal release apart from Varisu and Thunivu. Varisu got prominent screens in the Telugu states as it is produced by the leading producer Dil Raju. While Thunivu was having trouble with the Telugu release, Dil Raju has come to its aid now.
