Sankranthi 2023 is going to see a heated contest between ‘Waltair Veerayya’ and ‘Veera Simha Reddy’. The big tussle between the films of Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna, respectively, is going to be scintillating.
In between the two movies is Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Varasudu’, which is produced by Dil Raju. This Sankranthi release is holding importance in trade circles.
The Telugu Film Producers Council on Sunday issued a firm statement saying that ‘Varasudu’, which is the Telugu-dubbed version of the Tamil-language movie ‘Varisu’, shouldn’t outdo the two straight Sankranthi releases starring Chiru and Balayya in terms of the number of theatres in which it will be released.
The stance taken by TFPC is a reiteration of what was unanimously agreed upon a few years back with the consent of all Telugu producers. As per a resolution of the TFPC, Sankranthi and Dasara are festivals where Telugu films should get the highest precedence. Dubbed films should be given secondary treatment.
The statement issued by TFPC is being seen as a snub to ‘Varasudu’.
