Telangana State Women’s Commission Takes a Stand Against Vulgarity in Film Songs

In response to numerous complaints from the public, the Telangana State Women’s Commission has raised serious concerns over the portrayal of women in certain film songs, particularly through dance steps that are deemed vulgar and demeaning.

Recognizing cinema as a powerful medium with a significant influence on society, the Commission has emphasized that the use of such elements, which insult or objectify women, is unacceptable and warrants immediate attention.

The Commission has issued a stern warning to filmmakers, including directors, producers, choreographers, and other stakeholders, urging them to act responsibly and refrain from incorporating dance steps that belittle or indecently portray women. The Commission has made it clear that failure to adhere to this warning will result in strict legal action under relevant laws.

Highlighting the moral responsibility of the film industry, the Commission stressed the need for positive messaging and the protection of women’s dignity in cinema. Given the profound impact films have on youth and children, the Commission called for greater self-regulation within the industry to ensure that content aligns with societal values and respect for women.

The Commission has also invited feedback from the public and social organizations, encouraging them to share their views on the matter.
