Former Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara, the TDP leader, and his political colleague MLC Buddha Venkanna of the TDP were going in a car when assailants pounced on the vehicle and vandalized it earlier on Wednesday. The TDP leaders have escaped unhurt. The vandalism comes days ahead of the conduct of civic body elections in Andhra Pradesh.
Reports say that the condemnable incident took place on Macherla Ring Road near Guntur. The assailants, who couldn't be stopped by anybody, rammed a pole into the window panes of the victims' Audi car. Earlier, stone-pelting had taken place on the place.
While the TDPians survived the attack with no injuries, a lawyer named Kishore accompanying them sustained bruises.
Venkanna later alleged that the "goons of YSRCP" had launched the physical assault with the sole intention of intimidating them.
Addressing the media, former CM Chandrababu Naidu said, "A lawyer has suffered bloody injuries in the attack and has run away to Telangana. Is there a functioning government in the State? Are the police doing their job?"
The TDP supremo made it a point to telephone the lawyer and made him speak about the attack.
