The Trailer launch event of 'Sye Raa' was held on Wednesday evening. Producer Ram Charan and director Surender Reddy spoke about the movie at length.
Ram Charan said, "Chiranjeevi garu's looks, get-up, etc were designed meticulously with the help of production designer Rajeevan garu, among others. My father simply followed their brief. Pawan Kalyan garu's voice will be heard in the film as well."
"Surender Reddy garu has it in him to make intense films. That's what 'Sye Raa' will prove. I got to see a new angle to his creativity during this movie," the Mega Power Star added.
"The project was conceived more than 10 years ago but things didn't fall in place. Budgetary issues, etc prevented the materialization of the project. 'Sye Raa' hasn't been an easy film to produce. It's not just about money but also about respecting the memory of the person whose story the film is telling," Charan said.
"I made this film without worrying about returns. As for the controversies regarding the objections raised by Narasimha Reddy's descendants, we have made no wrong. What we have done is totally legitimate and in keeping with a Supreme Court order," he said.
"Extravagant production values alone can't ensure a film's success. What is important is that we have worked with those whose intentions are pure. Big names like Big B have done the film out of respect for Chiranjeevi garu, owing to the script's strength and because of the respect that Narasimha Reddy commands," he added.
Surender Reddy said, "We have based the script as per evidence that we found. All the main characters are there because the story needs them. Be it Amitabh Bachchan, Sudeep or Vijay Sethupathi, they are there for a reason. I researched for 6 months and interacted with a lot of knowledgeable personalities, including the present Nandyal MP. I read gazettes from Chennai as part of the research. The script was woven around the incidents as documented by various sources."
"I took 15 days to decide whether I should do 'Sye Raa'. During that time, I ruminated over the scale of the movie and whether I can pull it off. I derived courage from Chiranjeevi garu and got inspired by Charan's support in doing the movie," he added.
What about the film's sad ending (the hanging of Narasimha Reddy)? "It's history. By making a great sacrifice through his death, Narasimha Reddy inculcated the spirit of revolution among Indians," he added.
"The available technology has helped us make the film in a tight budget. This would have cost Rs 500 Cr but for technological advancements," Surender Reddy added.
"I couldn't imagine anybody other than Amitabh to play Chiranjeevi garu's guru. We hadn't envisioned 'Sye Raa' as a pan-Indian movie at the outset," he said.
"This is the most commercial movie, in the sense that it tells the hair-raising story of Narasimha Reddy, who scared the British like no other," Reddy added.
