Suriya’s ‘Karuppu’ Locks January 23, 2026 Theatrical Release!

Tamil superstar Suriya’s much-awaited film Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, is officially set to hit theatres on January 23, 2026.
The film, currently in its final stages of shooting, had faced uncertainty over its release date because the OTT and satellite rights remained unsold for a long time. That hurdle has now been cleared:
- Netflix has acquired the global OTT rights
- Zee Tamil has bagged the satellite (TV) rights
With both major post-theatrical deals sealed, the makers have locked January 23, 2026, as the worldwide theatrical release date and have no plans to shift it.
Sources say Netflix is particularly keen on sticking to this date because they have also acquired the streaming rights for Suriya’s next film (directed by Venky Atluri), which is scheduled for a May 2026 release. Releasing Karuppu on January 23 ensures proper spacing between the two Suriya titles on their platform.
The team is expected to make the official announcement very soon with the tagline “January 23 – Karuppu is coming!” and kick off aggressive promotions.
Karuppu features Suriya in the lead alongside Trisha, Natarajan Subramaniam (Natty), Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi, Swasika, and others in pivotal roles. G. K. Vishnu handles cinematography while Sai Abhyankkar composes the music. Produced on a grand scale by Dream Warrior Pictures, the film is shaping up to be one of the biggest Tamil openers of early 2026 and a massive treat for Suriya fans worldwide.
