Suriya turned into a producer with 2D Entertainment production banner and he started producing films regularly. He made them with himself, his wife Jyothika and his brother Karthi as leads. He has few more lined up as well.

When he came up with direct OTT release strategy for Pon Magal Vandhaal, his next production with Jyothika in the lead, many distributors, exhibitors banned his films. 30 producers came in support of Suriya.

The actor told to press that it is his film, his production and his money. He has all the rights to choose where and when to release. He also said that no distributor or exhibitor pays producers the overflows or rescues them from losses. He said that they will come to them asking advances back when film fails and this is not fair business.

Later, he mentioned that he is facing 70 crores losses and he is answerable to those who gave money to him but not to those who want to make money off him. He suggested that he has plans to release his other films on OTT as well and no one will have a say in it, as it is his business and his production house! Pon Magal Vandhaal will premiere on Amazon Prime Video directly, on 29th May, 2020.
