The Tamil Nadu government till a few days back was in very good books with the people for its fairly efficient handling of the coronavirus pandemic, barring the Koyambedu market cluster. However, according to political analysts, for the past few days have not been so complimentary especially the reopening of the government-owned TASMAC liquor stores which caused large number of tipplers to gather before shops with scant respect for social distancing.
Many political parties including Kamal Haasan's Makkal Neethi Maiam severely criticised the decision and the latter went to court. The high court ordered the closure of the liquor stores and suggested online only and home delivery systems which TN did not accept and has approached the Supreme Court.
Superstar Rajinikanth has slammed the TN government and has written in Tamil "At this time if the TN government adamantly reopens the wine shops it should forget any dream of coming back to power. Please look into some other means of filling the coffers".
Those are strong words from the Thalaivar which is not only in the point of view of the people but also the rulers themselves which should work more effectively if they lend their ears, says a seasoned analyst.
