Suriya's 'Soorarai Pottru' directed by Sudha Kongara made a clean sweep at the 68th National Film Awards winning the Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Musical Score categories. The film released directly on Amazon Prime Video in 2020 receiving high critical praise and also breaking records in viewership in India.

Meanwhile a deleted fight scene from 'Soorarai Pottru' has gone viral on the internet showing Suriya's fierce intensity. It is in the Hindi version and Sudha has stated in interviews that she shot the action sequence due to the demands of the North Indian market.

'Soorarai Pottru' starred Suriya as a common man who dreams and becomes an airlines owner based on Deccan Airways owner G.R. Gopinath. Aparna Balamurali played the character of a strong woman who backs her husband's dream and supports him to acheive it.

Sudha Kongara, Suriya and G.V. Prakash Kumar are all set to reunite for a new gangster saga that is expected to go on floors once the director completes the Hindi remake of 'Soorarai Pottru' starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role.
