Singer Sona argues with RGV, shames him on anti-woman tweet

Ram Gopal Varma has cracked a misogynistic tweet on women standing in the queue to buy liquor in parts of the country, especially in metros like Bengaluru.  The controversial filmmaker and mediocre tweeple commented, “Look who is in line at the wine shops.  So much for protecting women against drunk men.”

This insensitive tweet shames women and has been slammed by several feminists.  Well-known playback singer Sona Mohapatra gave a fitting reply to the ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’ director: “Dear Mr RGV, time for you to get into the line of people who desperately need a real education. That lets you understand why this tweet of yours reeks of sexism and misplaced morality.  Women have a right to buy and consume alcohol just like men. No one has the right to be drunk and violent.”

On his part, RGV tried to defend himself: “Hey I think u misunderstood the intention behind that tweet ..I am the last person to be judgemental ..I meant it for the leaders who falsely presume that only men drink and abuse women in that state,” he wrote, addressing Sona.

Sona then gave an exposition on how alcohol abuse and domestic violence are interlinked and women are the biggest victims of the phenomenon.  “So are you saying that this picture where a few women are standing in line to buy liquor proves otherwise?  How so? Statistics show domestic violence, alcohol abuse to be linked and women hold the short end of the stick across the world. Rarely does the woman drink and thrash her partner,” she wrote.
