Shruti Haasan got cast opposite male actors nearly double her age in ‘Waltair Veerayya’ and ‘Veera Simha Reddy’. The casting choice by directors Bobby Kolli and Gopichand Malineni was criticized by many.
IndiaGlitz spoke to the star actress to know what she thinks about the commentary, driven by feminists and Netizens. The ‘Salaar’ actress opined that she doesn’t see it as a personal criticism against her, Chiranjeevi or Balakrishna. “I took the criticism as a compliment. Nobody said that I was looking old enough opposite those two stars,” Shruti said in a jovial manner. “Both films are blockbusters. I don’t take the criticism personally,” Shruti iterated.
She sees age-inappropriate pairing as an accepted fact of cinema life. “That’s the way films are being made. The audiences are accepting that as well. Up until recently, it happened till recently in Tamil. It is happening in Hindi even now. I don’t want to take names,” Shruti said.
The ‘Race Gurram’ and ‘Gabbar Singh’ actress said that it’s an industry-wide trend and not an isolated instance that younger actresses are cast opposite heroes much older than them.
