Out of all the things that can be stolen no one would have ever imagined that a 56-tonne, 75ft bridge structure would go missing. This is exactly what happened in Murmansk, Russia. On May 16th photos showed that the center part of the bridge had fallen into the water. A few days later on May 26th, this section had completely vanished from the site. Local residents say that both the collapse and the disappearance are likely to be due to metal thieves. “Natural phenomena could not bring down the bridge,” wrote the Russian social media site VK.
The incident has been reported to the Kirovsk Police and a criminal investigation has been launched. The rail bridge that connects two villages across the Umba River had been dismantled years ago. Investigators suggest that an unidentified individual has stolen the bridge section with selfish motives leading to a loss of around £7,237 to the owner.
