Recently a couple with their two children self immolated themselves in front of the Collector office at Tirunelveli due to usury. Within months after this tragic incident that shocked the entire state usury has claimed the life of a Tamil film industry member.

Film producer Ashok Kumar has committed suicide by hanging in his apartment at Alwarthirunagar, Arcot Road, Chennai. He has left a suicide not in which he has said that he took the extreme decision due to the threats from Anbuchezhiyan, a Madurai based financier who charged exorbitant rate of interest for loans and threatened and insulted the defaulters.

Ashok is also a relative of actor-director Sasikumar and has been working for the actor's production banner Company Productions. He was also the co-producer of Sasikumar's 'Eesan', 'Poraali' and the yet to be released 'Kodiveeran'. 

Chennai City Police have registered a criminal complaint against financier Anbuchezhiyan. They have also formed a special team to nab the accused who has gone missing since the incident on Tuesday night.
